Our Delivery Journal

What a whirlwind the last 48 hours have been! Nick and I arrived at the hospital on Sunday evening at 6 p.m to be induced and at our suprise I started having really fast and hard contractions at 6:30. The little guy must have known what we were doing! Within 2 hours I reached 8 centimeters and shocked the nurses how fast my labor was progressing. We thought for sure we were going to have a Fathers Day Baby! The nurses said if I were to have another baby make sure I get to the hospital QUICKLEY!! Luckily I got an epidural right in time. So around 9:00 things started to go downhill, the baby was in distress because of how fast and long my contractions were lasting...he was getting no break at all. He would come down a little bit with each contraction but go right back up. They thought because he was big his shoulders were just not fitting into my pelvis. So we waited...and waited...and waited (for 5 hours) to see if he would move down anymore and see if I would dialate the rest of the way. Within these 5 hours we had a few big scares where his heartbeat went way down (7 minutes at one time) and they had to give me tributaline to calm my uterus down. Then my cervix started to swell because of all the pressure and my Doctor decided at that time to do an emergency c-section. It was definately scary, but I was proud of myself for staying calm. Nick did an excellent job of helping to keep me relaxed and comfortable! I definately could not of done it without him! Baby Talon scored a perfect 10-10 on his apgar score and my Doctor said that was a first for her! So in the end we have a beautiful, healthy baby boy who is the love of our lives! I think he is a perfect mix of Nick and I. He has my blonde hair and top lip and his daddy's nose, jaw line and fingers! We will be leaving the hospital on Thursday and we are all ready to go home and just enjoy our new little love!

Monday's The Big Day!

We had our last prenatal Doctor's appointment this morning and she said I was 50% effaced and still have not dropped or dilated but she said that is fine and she feels good about inducing me on Monday! I will be 39 weeks plus 5 days when we arrive at the hospital. So we go in on Sunday at 6 pm and they will start the p-gel and then actually start the pitocin drip on Monday morning. Hopefully this baby cooperates and moves down the birth canal...and quickley! She said there is a slim chance I won't dilate fully with the pitocin but we have to try. So it's all up to the baby at this point.

I went to the Doctor today and she said I still was only about 20% effaced and have not dilated and the baby is sky high! She said at this point she wanted to schedule an induction for the week after next (40 weeks!) She wanted to go ahead and get me on the books because they only schedule inductions on certain days. The only condition is that I have to have dilated and the baby has to drop before she will induce or she said it could be a really hard, long labor and put the baby into distress. So when I asked her "What if I don't dilate or drop by next week" she said we have to consider a few options. Because of the size of the baby she does not want me to go over my due date. So she said we can try to induce and know that we could end up with a c-section or electively just do a c-section. I said I did not want to go through a long, difficult labor and end up having a cesarean anyway. So next Friday will tell us what is going to happen. I just want to know either way to prepare myself. Of course they want you to try to deliver on your own but that just isn't going to happen in my case. She said at this point I should be having some cramping (contractions) and since I am not that tells her my body just isn't ready. By feeling the baby she thinks the baby is long, not necessarily chubby. And I agree because I feel and see his little legs pushing up against my side...it's definately getting cramped in there! Nick is 6'2 and my dad said he was 6' by the 4th grade!

38 Weeks and 1 Day!

We had our ultrasound today and she said the baby is 8 pounds 2 ounces! So not as big as they thought he was gonna be! With Nick being 10 pounds and my stepson was 9 pounds 8 ounces they don't think this baby will be that big...thank god! They say that baby's gain 1/2 pound per week and I have 13 days left so hopefully he will stay under 9 pounds. I just saw the ultrasound tech today and I will see my Doctor on Friday for an OB check. Hopefully things will start moving along soon!

Really Happy In There!

Apparently the baby is extremely happy in my belly and does not want to come out! The Doctor said my cervix was a little softer but he still hasn't dropped and I have not dialated. We will have another ultrasound this Wednesday to determine how big the baby is then the ob check on Friday. I'm sure he will come into this world when he is ready!

37 Weeks!

37 Weeks and counting.....
I'm still feeling really good, anxious, but good! I've been swimming a lot and trying to walk as much as I can. It's really hard to walk for long distances when your feet are swollen and you have to pee every 5 min...tee hee! We have a doctors appt on Friday at 11 and I will post any news! Wish me luck!
